I guess I can't deny I was a child of the Eighties, even though I managed a second teenage in the Naughties :P For me it was a real emergence into nightlife and having a really good time and my first involvement with bands and music, so there are a lot of happy memories. When I walked into Coffee's the other day and saw what he had created I was thrilled. I felt like I had just walked onto the set of The Tube (Google it, Millenials!) To me, the 80's was New Romantics, some very silly pop and the start of the Gothic movement so it was many layered. There were some of the most iconic movies ever made and I spent all my Friday nights in a club in the North-East, called The Kirk. I think we spent all our time during the week making our outfits for Friday night. I learned to DJ there and we had some great bands performing there. I probably opened my own hole in the ozone layer with the amount of Ellnett hairspray I used on my backcombed hair. Not to mention there was a certain amount of deforestation accounted for thanks to the amount of eyeliner pencils we went through. There may have been a lot of fluff music in the 80's, but it also produced a lot of enduring talent and some beautiful songs. Trying to pull together a set of songs to sing for my set was hard because there was so much I had to leave out. However this does leave at lot for future 80's shows! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Coffee's...maybe even more than usual. Miss Longtail took the stage after me and did a wonderful set, probably one of her best. She too came dressed for the occaision and you can see how cute she looked. I was back at Coffee's again on Friday and Sunday, to see Coffee perform and then Rick Blaisdale. If you have not heard Coffee perform then shame on you! As well as being an all round lovely bear-cat-person, whether talking or singing, he has a voice that is very more-ish! His versions of well known songs always manage to sound more attractive than the originals. Our precocious twins, Britnee & Whitney, managed to convince Uncle Coffee to break with the 80's and sing "Let it Go" from Frozen. He went for it in Coffee-acoustic style and we all loved it. On Sunday I managed to sneak in and catch Rick's show. he is usually on too late for me so I couldn't miss this one. We had a really fun time sending him requests. When I got there, the twins and Machka were already on stage, with Britnee on a tiny grand piano and Whitney drumming up a storm. I ended up on stage playing double-bass and it became the family jam-session when Coffee arrived and got his saxaphone out. When the next act failed to show I volunteered to do a fill in (even though I swore I was on holiday, haha!) as long as everyone stayed on stage! We all had such a good time. I have a feeling that this will not be the last time we end up with everyone on the stage ;) If you havent been to check out the new stage at Coffee's yet, then get your ass along there pronto and check out the amazing decor. You know that you will always get a warm welcome and fun memories are guaranteed.
