In real life had a very mixed musical education as a child, hearing mostly classical music to begin with but someone in our home was a fan of Musicals so I would sneak them out and listen to them. I would also sit outside my sister's door and listen to her playing Black Sabbath, T-Rex and David Bowie. Music was an energy that moved around the world and it was a revelation to me that there were so many different forms.
When it comes to singing, I love a ballad...be it Blues or jazz or Swing, it's got to have feeling. I love to become the person in the song. It does get me in to trouble sometimes though as anyone who can testify who has heard me sing Vincent. It's always a struggle to make it to the end without crying! But if it doesn't touch your soul...what is the point? It's just elevator muzac. I love the greats. Cole Porter. Irving Berlin. The Gershwins. Bacharach. John Barry. Yes, I LOVE a good Bond Theme. Not that I stick to a narrow choice. I don't have many songs in my repetoire from the charts, but that goes back to my love of songwriting. I may like listening to a lot of pop and indie (and Black Metal sometimes) but that doesn't mean I want to sing it. Well there was that one time I did the whole black metal voice thing but I digress...*coughs*
I still love the songs that I wrote because they are personal to me. You can find some of them on my Soundcloud. one day I might even get to sing them in SL but that takes a whole new level of brave.
I love Harmony. I would sing harmonies to just about anything. That's years of singing in choirs for you. Especially harmonies that wander off somewhere odd and then resolve. Maybe that says a lot about me!
